Microcapsule Development
Experience the enhanced product quality through customized services!
We carry out the research and development of micro-sized (㎛) granulated-capsules so that we may encapsulate the central materials with a specific polymer substance, or control the release of the central substance.
Microcapsule is a micro(㎛)-sized capsule with the purpose of protecting core material or controlling the releases of it by wrapping core material with a specific polymer material.

By kind of core material contained in a capsule, microcapsule products are divided into thermochromic microcapsule (Chameleon T, Bichrom T), photochromic microcapsule (Chameleon UVC, Bichrom P), aroma microcapsule (AromaBall), functional microcapsule (BioBall, HunterBall) and thermal storage microcapsule (ThermoBall). Microcapsule products have slurry types that can be used for water and powder types that can be used for oil.
INSILICO will keep developing better and more diverse products through tireless effort of R&D and become a leading company in the world market of capsulation and functional materials.
Research Areas

Chameleon T appears color at a lower temperature than its activation point, whereas it disappears color at a higher temperature than that point. Bichrom T is a reversible temperature-sensitive microcapsule that changes color to another as the temperature rises. Its colors are diverse in the temperature range of 0 through 70℃. To enhance the quality of the products which can customize consumers’ needs, we proceed with R&D for color development, color variation on temperature, thermal resistance and endurance.

Chameleon UVC does not form color in lightless environment but once exposed to light, it reveals color. Otherwise, Bichrom P changes reversibly color to another, when exposed to light. To enhance the quality of the products which can customize consumers’ needs, we proceed with R&D for color development, color variation on temperature, thermal resistance and endurance.

Aromaball and Bioball are products encapsulated to enhance the slow-release system of fragrance oils and functional materials. We proceed with R&D for persistent release of aroma, functional component and diversification of product lines.

Chameleon T disappears color as the temperature increases, while reverse thermochromic microcapsules are colorless at low temperatures and become colored as the temperature increases. We are conducting research for the development of the above product, which has the opposite characteristics from the existing temperature sensitive microcapsule.

Insilico is developing water-based, oil-based microcapsule special ink that can be used in various ways of printing based on the thermochromic, photochromic, fragrant, and functional microcapsules.
The method of printing includes screen printing, gravure printing, flexo printing, and the viscosity and physical properties of the ink are different for every single printing system. In particular, in the case of microcapsule ink, there is a microcapsule with fairly large particle size, so the dispersibility of the pigment is very important. Therefore, in order to develop various types of printing ink, we are conducting research on dispersibility of microcapsule pigments, research on ink addition dispersants, research on dispersion processes, and research and development of ink binders, and we are working to develop products that meet customer needs.

Highly durable heat storage microcapsules contain phase change material(PCM) that can spontaneously store and release heat in the form of latent heat without changing temperature when the phase changes from solid to liquid or liquid to solid according to ambient temperature changes.
It has the characteristics to store the proper energy and maintain the temperature as needed and the temperature range. By improving the relatively low durability and energy storage performance of conventional heat storage microcapsules, we have developed heat storage microcapsules with high durability.
We are conducting ongoing research and development for greater durability, repeatability and energy storage performance.

Biodegradable microcapsules are completely decomposed into water and carbon dioxide by the activity of microorganisms present in nature.
Existing general-purpose plastic materials remain microplastics without decomposition in nature, threatening the ecosystem, so there is a growing trend to develop eco-friendly materials that are returned to nature.
INSILICO is developing a biodegradable eco-friendly capsule product by replacing the existing plastic outer wall material with a natural outer wall material that can be obtained from nature to encapsulate water-insoluble raw materials containing various functional and aromatic oils.

The fire extinguishing microcapsule is a spherical polymer with a fire extinguishing agent contained inside the polymer shell, and exists in various sizes in a diameter of 50 to 300μm, and releases the fire extinguishing agent in response to a specific temperature.
Fire extinguishers are eco-friendly clean materials that do not destroy the ozone layer and have a low global warming index, so they can be used without sanctions under the climate change agreement, and there is no pollution or residue after the fire is extinguished.
Through research such as controlling fire extinguishing agent release temperature and strengthening capsule weather resistance, we are striving to apply it to various fire extinguishing applications.
